BIO Nayana Ferguson “The Tequila Queen.”
Nayana Doletta Ferguson, born on October 23, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan, is a pioneering African-American businesswoman and the first Black woman to own and lead a tequila brand. She co-founded Anteel Tequila in 2018 alongside her husband, Don Ferguson.
Before venturing into the spirits industry, Ferguson had a successful career as a financial analyst across various sectors, including the automotive industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA in business management. In 2016, during a trip to the Dominican Republic, the couple encountered Antillean Crested Hummingbirds, which are considered harbingers of good luck. This experience inspired them to name their brand “Anteel” and feature a hummingbird in the logo.
Since its inception, Anteel Tequila has achieved remarkable success, earning over 100 awards and accolades. The brand offers a diverse portfolio, including a Blanco tequila, the world’s only Coconut Lime Blanco tequila, the first Tarocco Blood Orange Blanco tequila, and a Reposado tequila aged for eight months in Tennessee whiskey barrels. An Añejo expression is slated for release in the fall of 2025.
Beyond her business achievements, Ferguson is a passionate advocate for pancreatic cancer awareness. A 17-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, she actively supports the Pancreatic Cancer Network, aiming to inspire and motivate others facing similar challenges. Ferguson’s journey from a corporate career to becoming a trailblazer in the spirits industry exemplifies resilience and innovation, inspiring many to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations.
